Hays County is Hiring a Financial Specialist I Near San Marcos, TX

Summary

Under general supervision, the Financial Specialist I for the Hays County Sheriff’s Office performs a variety of administrative and financial support functions. The work involves processing and reporting revenue, preparing financial reports, bookkeeping, bank reconciliations, assistance with purchase orders, and processing invoices for payment.

Individuals in this position serve at the pleasure of the current elected official.
Responsibilities
  • Administers the activities regarding revenues, bookkeeping and collections for the Sheriff’s Office general fund and bank checking accounts.
  • Follows established bookkeeping procedures and standards to record Sheriff’s Office revenue, in addition to expenses and deposits for Sheriff’s Office bank accounts. 
  • Performs ledger reconciliations with bank statements for Sheriff’s Office checking accounts. 
  • Follows Sheriff’s Office established revenue collection procedures.
  • Coordinates and verifies the collection of revenue and receipts received by Sheriff’s Office and Jail departments. 
  • Prepares revenue for deposit to the Treasurer’s Office per Local Government Code 113.022.
  • Prepares monthly financial reports to the Auditor’s Office per local Government Code 114.001.
  • Prepares necessary documents and checks from Sheriff’s Office checking accounts for authorized signers.
  • Submits scans, copies and requested items to the Auditor’s Office as needed. 
  • Assists the Sheriff’s Office Budget Manager as needed by providing information and reports and records as requested by Sheriff’s Office command staff. 
  • Assists Sheriff’s Office Budget Manager with documentation, support, explanation, and other materials deemed necessary for the Sheriff’s Office Command Staff, Auditor and Treasurer’s Office. 
  • Provides support with processing quotes to generate purchase orders and complete the ordering process.
  • Provides support of processing and coding invoices for payment.
  • Maintains a working relationship with the Auditor’s, Purchasing and Treasurer’s Office.
  • Performs data entry as needed into Excel spreadsheets or Access.
  • Creates and maintains working excel spreadsheets for various items. 
  • Operates office machines including photocopier, fax, calculator, adding machine, computer.
  • Assures the services delivered meet quality and timeliness standards.
  • Communicates all changes and problems to supervisor.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience

  • Requires High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Requires two years full-time experience in bookkeeping, accounts payable, or related work; or any equivalent combination of experience and training.

  •  Valid Class C Texas driver's license.
